A bike taken apart on the garage floor

Antoine was 10 when he rescued his father’s old steel racing bike, forgotten at the back of the family garage near Annecy. Instead of simply pumping up the tyres, he took it apart completely on the garage floor, piece by piece, to understand how everything fitted together.

Putting it back together took the whole summer. He came out of it with a conviction that has never left him: a bike is not a fixed object, it is a set of choices that can always be improved.

The obsession with the perfect bike

As a teenager, Antoine spent his summers in a bike shop, first sweeping the workshop floor, then adjusting derailleurs. He stayed on as a mechanic for eight years and hand-built more than 300 pairs of wheels.

That is where his passion for optimisation was born. He weighs every component on precision scales, compares geometries to the millimetre and tests tyre pressures and riding positions on his reference loops. His project every winter: rebuild a bike in search of the best balance between weight, aerodynamics, comfort and reliability.

His rule fits in one sentence: the best bike is not the most expensive one, it is the one where every part has a good reason to be there.

What he writes on Expert Bike

Antoine covers equipment in all its forms: road bikes, gravel, mountain bikes and e-MTBs, sizing, buying online and brand comparisons. His guides rely on concrete measurements (weight, geometry, stack and reach, real prices) rather than marketing spec sheets.
